It's time for more What I Learned This Week over at Musings of a Housewife. What did you learn this week?
This week I learned so much...about sparkly vampires.
First, a little background. My husband has always been a lover of all things vampire and/or zombie. That's to say that he was, until the sparkly vampires came along. You know what I'm talking about. Twilight. Vampires and adolescent hormones. My husband's worst nightmare. Now just bring out some touchy-feely zombies and his misery will be complete.
So the Twilight craze is going gangbusters, but I had yet to read any of the books. I have to admit that part of the reason I hadn't read them is because I'd feel like I was cheating on Harry. You know, Potter. I love Harry. But my bloggy friends can be very persuasive (read: pushy) so I decided I'd look into checking the book out from the library. I thought I'd have to wait forever to get a copy, but one became available less than a week after I requested it. So I brought it home.
And my husband's head exploded.
Okay, not really. But he has been eyeing me suspiciously since I started reading it. Hey, if he can be a scary vampire, I can be a sparkly one. So I read. I have to say that it was pretty good, too. Oh, I'm not saying it compares to Harry. But still, pretty good. I think I like sparkly vampires. I finished reading book 1 this morning then went online to my library's website to put a request in for book 2...
There are 75 people ahead of me on the waiting list.
I'm not that patient a person. I was left with no choice but to go buy New Moon. I think there are forces conspiring against me much in the way that a drug pusher would. Here - read the first book. It's easy to get. You'll like it... Then I get sucked (vampire reference duly noted) into it and BAM! I can't get the next one so easily. But they've got me. They know they do. And I have to buy more to support my habit. They're just evil that way. And not even in a sparkly way.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have sparkly vampires to tend to.
Still here? Then how about checking out the Life is Funny blog carnival? No sparkly vampires, but there is a cute little redhead with a sparkling personality.

I don't like scarey things, even if they are sparkly...Sorry...I won't be reading it. But I tweeted you anyways..Love you!
I loved that picture. Did you do that?
Beth - No, I found it. I loved it, too!
Not a Harry or vampire fan (sparkly or otherwise)!
Can I still be a bloggy friend?
Thanks for visiting my blog.
I typically resist anything that is overly popular. Harry Potter - I resisted until after the first two books were out. Twilight (you're right, it doesn't compare to HP, but they are good...) - I resisted until the movie was in the making. Just goes to show that just because something's popular, doesn't mean I'll hate it, huh?
Apparently I'm a stronger woman than you. I haven't submitted to the shiny vampire pressure.
But if they're truly SHINY....? I might have to reconsider.
I like shiny.
(And LOVE HP. Just reread the last 2 books.)
@meelaniet42 I am a follow-resist-er myself: I waited till all the HP books and several movies were out to read/watch them. I think it's because I find "The End" more soothing than "To Be Continued..." lol
@Wendy Welcome to the Twilight fan club...I waited till all four books were out to be sucked into this. ;) But I must say, I will never give up Harry for Twilight, but it's a nice second-place addiction.
TOTALLY loved the pic, btw.
@Steph Not just shiny...diamond-encrusted sparkly! That beats plain ol' shiny any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Nothing will ever compare to Harry. Actually, I prefer Ron, but let's not go there for now... I haven't read Twilight yet. Though as you know, I don't seem to find time to read much of anything these days (except blogs). Or at least I can't finish anything-- I didn't even get my last book club book done.
Too funny. I waited on the library list for the first one, then found out that the list was ridiculous for the second. I went out and bought it too.
That's funny...the Cullens are boyfriends/husbands worst nightmares!
I laughed out loud. Thanks.
Apparently, I have the least amount of will power of any one here :). I have read all of the Twilight series (the second and third ones, I've read twice) and read all of the Harry Potter series. I actually re-read the 6th Harry Potter book this past weekend on vacation so I'd be ready for my 5:50 showing tonight!!
I have to admit that the Harry Potter books are beetter written, but there's something about sparkly vampires that make me tingle ;).
Love the picture!
I would have to say I'm a bigger fan of Harry then the Vampire/Twilight stuff!
I am not a patient person either so I hear you on waiting. I do think that the forces are against you! Watch your back!
Love, love Twilight. Read the first three books in a week I think (stole the first one from my daughter and was hooked), then bought the last one the day it came out and finished it in a day. Now the question is are you team Edwared or Team Jacob???
I have not jumped on the Twilight band wagon yet. Loved the post! How funny!!!
