Parenting 101 - A time honored test

Some parents have children that are risk takers. These children may be seen in emergency rooms everywhere. They're the ones sitting next to the haggard looking parents.

Some parents have children who are afraid to try anything new. You'll find these children hiding behind their parents legs. They may or may not have said legs in a death grip hold.

But what if you're a parent and you're not sure which category your child falls under? Well parents, there's a time honored test to find this out. Rollercoasters.

Just take your child on a rollercoaster and you will have your answer within seconds. If at the end of the ride your child is happily asking to go on it again, you've got a risk taker. If, on the other hand, your arm has been clawed to a bloody stump, you have yourself a scaredy cat.

I've tested my own child in this manner. I'd hoped that the child I'd birthed would be a rollercoaster rider like myself, but no. She's just a big ol' chicken. Of course, this hasn't kept me from retesting her every chance I've gotten. Oddly enough, I continue to get the same result. But I will persist, because it builds character. Both for her and me. But mostly for her.

Looking for more ways to build character? How about joining in the Life is Funny blog carnival? It'll be good for you. There's even some new posts there for you to read. Now hop to it before I take you on another rollercoaster.

Considering I'm a roller-coaster chicken myself (I crouched down and waited for death to take me on the hurl-a-whirl at the summer carnival, y'ain't gonna get me on anything else), I'll skip this test. But I think I've got my son pegged anyway: we've been to the ER for him walking through hot coals from a bonfire, falling and knocking his head on concrete, and I've had to retrieve him from the roof of the shed and up in a tree. His mama he's not. lol

Sadly, that look is plastered on my face daily.

I have two of each. My oldest and my youngest are risk takers. The baby isn't even a year and he can't get enough. My oldest was the same except we never walked in and found her on top of counters and such. The baby is a wicked scary climber.

The middle two are chickens. I'll be writing about it tomorrow or Monday though. 3 days at Disney and you learn all about it. Let me just say my oldest's favorite ride was the Tower of Terror. She's just like me but I'm not sure I'm up for the potential broken bones. I don't know how I avoided breaking bones as a kid.

I've got this problem where I'm scared to death of roller coasters but I'm more scared of looking wussy. So I go on them anyway. I don't scream. I don't make a sound. I just hold on very very tightly and pray....

Reminds me of how in college, my best friend INSISTED that I ride the screaming eagle ( I wasn't sure I could handle it, since I had never been on a roller coaster before). I proceeded to point from the peak, all the way down which rides I wanted on that day, since The Screaming Eagle was the highest point of the park (possible all of Gurnee, IL)). My best friend, who DRAGGED me on the ride, had her eyes shut, and was saying "Yeah, yeah, whatever....my eyes are staying shut" in the mean time.

LOVE that face. (The mom's face doesn't look much more courageous either!).
I have 2 risk takers. The 2 yo recently stood on her tippy toes so she could be tall enough to ride the Barn Stormer "bower coater" at Disney. She LOVED it. I, on the other hand, felt like I might be sick.
